Novel characterization and processing methodologies for battery minerals

In this part of the project, structure, mineralogy, processability, geometallurgical properties, geochemical and isotopic analysis of cobalt, lithium and graphite ore are being investigated using new analytical methods.

Espoo Research laboratory (Research Laboratory | GTK )

Li isotopes and geochemical composition of spodumene can be used as an exploration tool and for the optimization of mineral processing. Similarly, the geochemical composition of graphite is a promising tracer of the ore source.

GTK Mintec, Outokumpu mineral processing laboratory (Outokumpu Mineral Processing Pilot Plant and Laboratories – GTK Mintec | GTK)

The characterization results of cobalt-ores geometallurgical properties will be combined with cobalt-minerals properties and processability characterization data to generate a geometallurgical database of cobalt-bearing deposits of Finland that will complement the existing GTK database.
