Business modeling and market analysis course – knowledge focusing on the Mining Exploration

The short course of Business modelling and marketing analysis was held on May 4.-6, 2022 at Oulu university. There were 15 participants on lectures from whom six graduated the 2 ECTS doctoral course. There was also opportunity for professionals and students to attend lectures without participating the short course practical work in small groups and discussion sessions, which were required for graduation.

The course was organized as a hybrid. “This kind of implementation is challenging. To have part of the attendees present and others remote is maybe not the ideal situation, but it gives chance for more people to join. We managed to get best out of it and got good feedback from attendees”, tells Professor Petri Ahokangas from Oulu Business School, Martti Ahtisaari Institute.

The Business modeling and market analysis was a subject and industry-specific course focusing on the Mining Exploration. At the course students were acquainted with market analysis, business models, and go-to-market planning at strategic level. The course consisted of lectures, practical work and discussions where attendees gained skills and knowledge on topics of the course applied to mining exploration context. The attendees got familiar with different tools and methods for conducting market research as well as the key areas of business model thinking and application and understanding of the trends and directions of mining exploration business. After the course they were able to apply the contents in their own work in practice.
