At the Mining School of the University of Oulu, Atte Taivalkoski started his MinExTarget supported PhD research in May. The supervisors of the PhD project are Prof. Pertti Sarala (Oulu Univ.) and Prof. Ferenc Molnár (GTK). The title of the Atte`s project is ‘Heavy mineral fingerprinting techniques using advanced analysis and identification techniques’. His research focuses on the use of sulphide minerals in glacial till and weathered bedrock for gold exploration in Finnish Lapland.
At the University of Tromso – Arctic University of Norway, Harald Hansen has recently started his Ph.D. project supervised by Assoc. Prof. Sabina Strmic-Palinkas and Prof. Steffen Bergh. The title of his topic is ‘Heavy mineral concentration techniques and the classification of sulphide minerals in relation to ore deposit characterization’. He will work with different sample materials form northern Finland, eastern Greenland, Norway and eastern Europe.
